Sharjah is a dry emirate, which means there are no bars or nightclubs in the city. If you have time on your hands and you are desperate for a drink, head into neighbouring Dubai where liquor is served in the bars of most international hotels.
The most convenient way to get to Dubai is to take one of the reasonably priced taxis into the city – see our transport options for more details.
A word of warning – if you do plan to use your stop-over in Sharjah to visit Dubai, make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get back to the airport as the traffic jams are truly horrendous, particularly during the evening rush hour.
