Arriving and departing
A new check-in zone at the airport opened in 2007, making check-in at Sharjah a much more hassle-free and speedy process compared to larger airports in the region.
- You’re almost certainly flying on Air Arabia if you’re using Sharjah airport. The various destinations and check-in counters are clearly marked, with a minimum check-in time of 60 minutes before your flight is due to leave.
- There’s an ATM machine in the check-in hall, although it does not accept all international cards. Make sure you have some local currency in advance – especially if you’ve just arrived in a taxi and need some extra cash to pay the fare – or alternatively use the nearby Travelex money exchange counter.
- If you’re flying Air Arabia and have forgotten to print your booking details, then use the airline’s office, on the first-floor of the domed hall. You’ll require a printed copy of your booking details for the check-in procedure.
- For last-minute flights or hotels, use the Sharjah Airport Travel Agency office (SATA, +971 6 561 8888), which can be found next to the Air Arabia office. It can organise tickets, hotels and other local tours.
- There's also a newly-opened McDonalds before check-in (open to the public), as well as a Hala Services office for passengers needing to arrange meet-and-greet bookings.
- A Travelex money exchange counter is located in the main check-in area. There are also bureaux de change inside the departures area of the airport once you've gone through passport control.
- A small duty-free shop selling essentials is also located in the main entrance hall.
- Bag-wrapping is available and costs Dhs 10 ($2.70) per item.
