As with neighbouring Saudi Arabia, Kuwait is 100% alcohol-free, meaning that there are no bars in the country. This also applies to 5* hotels and upmarket restaurants, making Kuwait one of the most conservative states in the region when it comes to booze.
Instead, life revolves around cafes and restaurants. Try our Restaurant Picks section for ideas of where to dine, but as a general rule, you can’t go wrong with heading to one of the major malls in Kuwait City, which are designed just as much for socialising as for shopping.
