The country
Kuwait is one of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, covering an area roughly the size of Wales and with a population of just over three million people in 2008.
Lying at the northernmost end of the Arabian Gulf, Kuwait shares its largest borders with Iraq to the north and west, and Saudi Arabia to the south. There is no direct border with Iran, but at their closest points the two countries are only around 15km apart.
Kuwait City is the only real urban area in the whole country.
The airport
Kuwait International Airport is located about 14km south of Kuwait City centre, connected by a main motorway.
