Staying in the airport
Use this section if you’re connecting flights in Kuwait and don’t want to leave the airport during your layover:
- After getting off the plane in Kuwait, you’ll find yourself in the main departures/transit area, whose facilities and services – such as duty-free shopping – are listed in our Inside the Airport section
- If you’re transferring on to a different flight, probably on Jazeera Airways or Kuwait Airways, simply look for the information screens telling you which gate your onward flight departs from.
- Most passengers should already have their boarding cards for their onward flight. If not, there are two transfer desks inside the terminal. One is for Kuwait Airways passengers, and the other is for Jazeera and all other airlines. They’re within a two-minute walk of each other.
- If you’re transferring on to the United Airlines flight to Washington, then you need to go to the Kuwait Airways transfer desk, where you can directly check in for the flight.
Leaving the airport
Read this section if your final destination is Kuwait itself, or if you have a longer stopover and want to get out of the airport between your flights.
- After disembarking, follow the signs to the visa counter, where you need to pick up a numbered ticket and wait to be called. Read our section on visas to find out which nationalities can obtain a visa upon arrival in Kuwait.
- Passengers with pre-booked meet and assist services from al-Maha will be met from the plane and escorted through the visa process, passport control and baggage claim
- If you need duty-free shopping, do it before getting your visa. There is no arrivals duty-free shop after passport control, only those in departures. However, all passengers go through the airport mall after arriving, which has a range of shops and cafes – see our shopping section for more details.
- Once you have your visa, head down the stairs to the passport control area (which has a smoking room and toilets), and then through to baggage claim where porter services are available for small fee if you need a hand with your luggage.
- After passing through baggage claim, you’ll find yourself in the airport mall. There are car rental offices, hotel reservation points, taxi/limousine agents and information desks on either side of the walkway as you leave the baggage area.
