 To Dubai International Airport

  • Taking a taxi is by far the most straightforward and reliable method of transport. Taxis in Dubai are also considerably cheaper than in much of the United States and Europe, and even fares to the airport from more distant parts of the city are unlikely to exceed Dhs 80-100 ($22-27).
  • All taxis are metered at identical rates, starting at Dhs 3 ($0.80) if you hail one on the street from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Dhs 3.50 ($0.95) from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. They charge around Dhs 1.50($0.40) per kilometre. The down side is the traffic, which can come to a standstill at peak air traffic hours (roughly 11pm-1am and 3pm-7pm), so make sure you plan your trip accordingly and leave plenty of time. Taxis can be booked in advance through Dubai Taxi, on +971 (0)4 2080808.
  • Dubai doesn’t have a rail or tram network, although a metro system is under construction and from 2009 will link the airport to the rest of the city. Watch this space.
  • Taking a bus to the airport for your flight is risky given the often unpredictable nature of the services and the traffic. Regular services do run from Deira Bus Station, which is near the Gold Souk, but we highly recommend taking a taxi to avoid any missed flights. At the time of writing there were no online maps of bus routes available, but these can be picked up from the main bus stations in Dubai.
