Qatar is a pretty family-friendly place to visit, although there’s not a huge range of activities and attractions specifically designed for children.
If you’re in Qatar between April and September then it’s best to keep children out of the heat during the day. Stick to shopping malls, which often have specific activities and entertainment programmes for kids, or go and see a film at one of Doha’s cinemas, which show a range of western movies including children’s features. Some of Doha’s hotels also run occasional children’s activities, usually during school holidays.
If you’re in town during a more clement time of year, then a great place to take the children is Palm Tree Island, about a 10-minute boat ride from the Sheraton hotel on the Doha corniche. It's a perfect spot for kids on a sunny (but not too hot) afternoon. The island has sandy beaches, fairground rides and a quad bike track. The return boat ride costs QR15 ($4) for adults and QR 10 ($2.70) for children, with boats running from lunchtime until around 9-10pm.
