The strict licensing rules in Qatar mean that alcohol is only served in a select number of bars and restaurants attached to Doha’s five-star hotels. The same goes for nightclubs – which are all located in hotels too – and some venues have recently started asking for IDs, so it’s best to make sure you have your passport with you.
If you fancy a drink, then try the following as starting points:
Palomas
Intercontinental Hotel, Doha +974 484 4444
Tex-mex restaurant with bar attached
The Pearl Lounge
Marriott Hotel, Doha, +974 429 8444
A popular, long-established venue. No trainers, t-shirts or jeans allowed.
CloudNyn
Merweb Hotel, Doha, +974 447 1111
Bar and nightclub located on the mezzanine floor of the four-star Merweb Hotel, located in the main shopping area of Doha. Open till 2.30am and reportedly popular with Qatar Airways staff.
Library Bar and Cigar Lounge
Four Seasons Hotel, Doha, +974 494 8888
As the name suggests, this venue is designed to resemble a panelled library. Specialises in cocktails and martinis, popular with business types in the evenings and houses its own mahogany humidor.
