The country
The state of Qatar is located on an outcrop of the Arabian Peninsula. It shares a border with Saudi Arabia to the south, and is surrounded by the Arabian Gulf on other sides. Across the sea to the north-west lies the island of Bahrain, and to the south-east is the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Qatar’s capital city is called Doha, and is located on the eastern coast of the country. It is the only major urban area in Qatar, with expanses of largely uninhabited desert making up the rest of the country’s territory.
The airport
Doha International Airport is located around 5km south-east of the city centre of Doha. It’s within a short drive of many hotels and amenities in the city.
A future airport, called the New Doha International Airport, is being constructed just a few kilometres north of the current hub. It’s set to open in 2009.
