Staying in the airport

Use this section if you’re connecting in Bahrain and don’t want to leave the airport between flights.

  • If you’re transferring through Bahrain airport, probably on Gulf Air, then you’ll need to follow the signs for the transfer area when you step off the plane and enter the airport. Once you’ve done the security checks, you’ll be directed upstairs and into the main Departures area. From here, either head straight to your gate for an immediate departure, or read our Inside the Airport section for ideas of how to spend your time.
  • Most passengers should already have boarding cards for their onward flights, but if not, then head to the Gulf Air information point and transfer desk in the arrivals area, close to the queues for passport control.
  • Passengers on other airlines with connecting flights should ask at one of the transfer desks for guidance.

Leaving the airport

Use this section if your final destination is Bahrain itself, or if you’re on a stopover and have time to leave the airport between flights.

  • After disembarking, head to the passport control area near arrivals. You then need to head  downstairs to the baggage claim area, through customs and out into the arrivals hall.
  • There’s a small arrivals duty-free shop just after passport control. This is also the place to pick up any pre-ordered goods from Bahrain Duty Free (www.bdutyfree.com)
  • The main arrivals hall, after you’ve come through customs, has a selection of car rental offices including some of the major international chains. You will also find currency exchange counters, hotel reservation offices and a few fast-food restaurants and cafes to satisfy any immediate post-flight hunger.
  • Meet-and-greet services in Bahrain airport are managed by Al Dana (www.bahrainairport.com/bia/aldana, +973 (0)1732 1076). The full VIP service, available to both arriving and departing passengers, costs BD 40 ($105) for 1-4 people and BD 10 ($26.50) for every additional user. A simpler service, where a member of staff assists passengers through customs, costs BD 3 ($8) per person. Al Dana can also arrange flowers and onward transport for passengers.
