The city
Abu Dhabi is actually a series of islands which lie just off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Arabian Gulf. The emirate is bordered by Dubai to the south and by Saudi Arabia to the south and west. It also shares a border with Oman in the south-east.
The airport
Abu Dhabi International Airport is located on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road, about 30 minutes or 25 km from the city centre and around 45-60 minutes' drive from newer areas of Dubai like Jebel Ali, Dubai Marina and Dubai Media City.
The out-of-town location makes the airport extremely convenient to access by car, and thankfully it doesn’t suffer from the kind of traffic congestion that can plague other airports in the region. Use our transport section for details of getting to or from the airport.
